'Star Trek' star Zachary Quinto
Zachary Quinto may turn into a movie star after Star Trek opens on Friday (that's him at left, as a young Mr. Spock), but he promises it won't go to his head. "I've lived in Los Angeles for 10 years," he says, "so I don't take anything for granted. All that (fame) stuff that swirls around us is incredibly ephemeral and intangible, so playing into it is a recipe for disaster. My family and friends hold me accountable to myself." Quinto, who got a drama degree from Carnegie Mellon University, struggled for seven years before landing the role of Sylar, the multi-faceted villain on NBC's Heroes. "I was a good waiter," he says of his days before he could support himself in his chosen profession. "Well, I got real good at the end. Now I look back on those days with fondness, but I didn't think fondly of them at the time. I did what I needed to do, and I made my living at it, so it was cool." Since Sylar is noted for eating his victim's brains in order to gain their special powers, we were wondering whether that nasty habit turned Quinto into a vegetarian. "No," he admits. "I'm starving. I could eat a burger right now."
