After almost seven years of marriage, Kate Winslet and director Sam Mendes are splitting. Last year, Mendes was at Winslet’s side as she won an Oscar, after five previous nominations, for her performance in The Reader. But this year the actress attended the awards ceremony alone. “Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year,” their lawyers said in a statement today. “The split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement. Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children.” Winslet, 34, and Mendes, 44, were married in 2003. They have a son, Joe, 6. Winslet also has a daughter, Mia, 9, from her first marriage to Jim Threapleton. – Ann Oldenburg
