With 'Fierce Style,' Christian Siriano keeps you from being a hot mess

October 8th, 2009 4 comments

FierceStyle_final New York Fashion Week may have come and gone, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still look to the top designers for fashion tips. Christian Siriano, the charismatic fourth-season winner of Project Runway, is taking his passion to the masses with the new book, Fierce Style: How to Be Your Most Fabulous Self, in stores this week. “It’s very light-hearted, very kitschy, very fashion. It’s for that younger aspiring artist and fan,” says the 23-year-old Maryland native, who got Runway mentor Tim Gunn to write the foreward for his book. As for being a published author, Siriano says, “it’s a lot of people’s dream and aspiration. I didn’t take it so seriously – it’s not a novel.” He’s currently on a book tour and has stops coming up in New York, California, Minnesota and Washington, D.C. “I’ll have more of a chance to see the people and see what their lifestyle is like and definitely get a little fashion trend about where everyone shops and how they dress,” Siriano says. You can check out some exclusive fall fashion tips from him, current Project Runway contestant Christopher Straub and other Runway alums here.

Fashionable stars hit multiple shows

September 15th, 2009 No comments

Guests at the fall fashion shows in New York this week are running from one venue to the next and some of the notables  — among them Mena Suvari and Kelly Rowland — have been spied at multiple shows by fashion writer Ashley Parker. Project Runway alum Christian Siriano had lots of celebs, including PR‘s Tim Gunn, who graciously posed with fans, Suvari, Rowland, Kristen Johnston,Tori Spelling, J. Alexander, aka Miss J from Americas Next Top Model, Victoria Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio and Nina Garcia. His show was less fierce, more fabulous, and very soft and feminine, says Ashley. Spotted at the Herve Leger for Max Azria were Hilary Duff, Amanda Bynes, supermodel Marissa Miller and Mischa Barton. Expect to see Herve Leger dresses on lots of Hollywood starlets this spring. At Rebecca Taylor she found Rebecca Romijn, Tiffani Thiessen and some real housewives of New York.

September 11th, 2009 3 comments

Ashleyp The September Issue, the movie mentioned earlier, could not be opening at a more perfect time. New York Fashion Weeks kicks off Saturday, and freelance fashion writer Ashley Parker, right, will be reporting for us on all the buzz from the busy tents in Bryant Park. Ashley’s schedule is insane — she’s confirmed for more than two dozen shows between Saturday and Thursday, among them Betsey Johnson, Tracy Reese, Nanette Lepore, Badgley Mischka, Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren. Be sure to check back here this weekend and next week to find out who’s in the front rows, just how “fierce” Project Runway winner Christian Siriano‘s new collection is, whether the opening party for a new Tommy Hilfiger store draws a crowd, and any other drama or excitement unfolding as designers showcase their pieces for the spring 2010 season.
